APM2006 Cultural program

Monomax PCO Company organizes this excursion program for accompanying persons and participants of the Conference who can discover and explore Saint Petersburg major sights. Program consists of half or full day excursions in a comfortable vehicle. English speaking guide will carry on the excursions. The costs of museum tickets are included into the tour price. We cordially invite all participants to book and to prepay tours in advance. In case of the shortage of the required minimum of participants, the cultural program may be cancelled.

Content of the program

UNESCO recognized Saint Petersburg as one of the 10 most beautiful cities in the world. It impresses one by a combination of magnificent architecture with strict planning of its broad streets, squares, parks, gardens, canals and museums of great rarity. It could be rightly called an open-air museum. Enjoy your free time in Saint Petersburg!

Tour #1 Sightseeing tour “St.Petersburg - the city of Peter the Great” with visiting of the Peter and Paul fortress June 26, 14.30 — 18.30 Price 35 € per person Peter and Paul fortress was built in 1703, and it was the beginning of the city history. Except the fortress fortifications there is the Cathedral of early of XVII century with the burial vault of Peter the Great and other Russian tsars, including last Romanov′s Family of Nikolay II.

Tour #2 “Neva-River panorama in magnificent white night” June 27, 23.00 — 3.00 For foreign participants the price is included into registration fee St. Petersburg is famous for its White Nights when during the summer night never falls and the main Neva river bridges are open. Some Petersburgers and the guests stay out all night, enjoying miraculous twilight of the city from the embankments, river bridges and boats hovering between the water and sky along the Neva River and the canals. From the best point of view at the arrow of Vasilievsky Island you can enjoy by Neva panorama, the architect ensembles of the historical city center during bridges opening.

Tour #3 “Kunstkamera – the first Russian museum” June 29, 10.00 — 14.30 Price 40 euro per person Museum was founded by Peter I. Visit to department of first collections of natural sciences (many of them are unique) and to Grand Gotthorp Globe-Planetarium. The History of Russian Academy of Sciences in XVIII century. Museum world ethnographic collections review independently.

Tour #4 “Treasure of Russian tsars in Catherine′s Palace of Tsarskoye Selo (with visiting of Amber Room)” June 30, 9.30 — 18.00 Price is 70 € per person The favorite summer residence of the Russian Emperors and Empresses, where the royal families spend a lot of time, Tsarskoe selo was the favorite palace of the daughter of Peter the Great — Elizabeth as well as Catherine II. Outstanding Russian and European architects headed by B.Rastrelli created the exteriors and interiors of this palace and pavilions of the wonderful regular park. Visiting Catherine palace you will have a lucky ability to see the magnificent “Amber room” newly restored after the Second World War and open to visitors recently.

Tour # 5 POST-CONGRESS Tour “Kronshtadt & Oranienbaum”

Oranienbaum — unique St.Petersburg suburb palace-and-park ensemble of Russian tsars that was not occupied by fascist Germany during Second World War. Here in Oranienbaum Empress Catherine the Second had her most favorite summer residence with famous Chinese Palace erected by architect A. Rinaldy in rococo style as well as Katalnaya Gorka (Sliding hill) with a pavilion. This venue was a point of intensive palace building during XVIII–XIX centuries. At present this ensemble is actively restored.

The way to Oranienbaum lays throw Dam and Kronshtadt and includes ferry crossing of Finnish Gulf behind Kronshtadt. At the back way the participants will have city tour around Kronshtadt. In accordance with Peter the Great order to defend St. Petersburg from the Baltic Sea side the town-fortress Kronshtadt was founded in 1704 year. This town is considered to be one of the most noteworthy creations of Peter the Great. The town's historical heritage is connected with the history of Russian Navy and can be seen in the tumbledown forts. The way to Kronshtadt goes along the Dam connected the town with the northern gulf shore. The dam is the unique engineering project under construction that has to protect city from the season floods. Kronshtadt is not only historical but also the modern operating military navy base of St Petersburg. Several years ago it was opened for the visitors.
